Our personal narrative began based on many misinterpretations made when we were very young and could not understand the world around us. These false beliefs go on to create our self identity, determine our self worth, and set us up for how we show up in the world. These ‘stories’ tell us who we can and cannot be, prevent us from recognizing our unique talents and gifts and ultimately block us from becoming our best selves and who we are truly meant to be.
Tangible Takeaways:
-
Understanding what your personal narrative is and how the story began based on misinterpretations.
-
Understanding how we see and experience life through the lens of our narrative, thus creating more misinterpretations which reinforce our story.
-
Understanding the connection between how thoughts create the feelings that motivate our behaviors.
-
Cultivating a new curiosity into the way in which you interpret what is happening in your world by noticing the patterns in the way you ‘show up’ in life.
-
Moving beyond the self limited belief system that you have created by developing an awareness of what is happening and beginning to challenge the thoughts and feelings - understanding they are not ‘facts’.
-
How to rewrite your story using therapies such as Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to be more effective in all areas of life.
